A Georgetown graduate and a visitor to campus were reportedly assaulted in separate incidents on campus over consecutive days.

One student was arrested in response to the second assault, which took place on Saturday afternoon, but no charges were pressed after the victim, his girlfriend, said that the incident had been exaggerated by authorities.

The incident began in a dormitory at 3 p.m. on Saturday between a male Georgetown student and his girlfriend, who does not attend Georgetown and was visiting for the weekend, according to the etropolitan Police Department incident report.

The incident report said the victim was involved in a verbal disagreement with her boyfriend that turned physical when she was pushed into a chair, receiving a red bruise on her left arm. According to the incident report, the incident took place over a three-minute period.

The assault was classified as a domestic dispute by the university’s Department of Public Safety.

The victim, who spoke on the condition of anonymity based on of the sensitivity of the situation, said that she did not call for police, but assumed that a call was placed by somebody that overhead the disagreement.

According to the victim, seven or eight officers from both DPS and MPD responded to the scene. She said that she was made uncomfortable when they started asking questions and taking pictures.

“It was completely blown out of proportion,” the victim said. “The police officers clearly needed to make a weekend quota. I asked to be arrested myself because they . put words in my mouth.”

“Everyone was looking. We looked like criminals,” she added. “It was so embarrassing.”There was no need to arrest him. We were just standing there like, `Are you kidding me? This is so unnecessary.'”

The victim said that her boyfriend was released from MPD custody on Saturday night. No charges were pressed, and the couple is still dating, the victim said.

The victim declined to provide her boyfriend’s name.

The previous afternoon, Saad Omar (COL ’07) had just attended a Muslim prayer service in the Leavey Program Room on the first floor of the Leavey Center, when at 2:11 p.m., according to an MPD incident report, Omar was approached from behind and was pushed to the ground by an unidentified male assailant. Omar, who did not sustain any injuries from the attack, could not be reached for comment.

The incident was also reported to DPS.

The assailant was approximately 5-foot-8 and weighed about 200 pounds, according to the report. The report said that the assailant was in his early 20s and dressed entirely in black.

The case is under investigation, the MPD incident report said.
