Big East Tickets in Short Supply

You may not have to wait in line for men’s Big East tournament tickets this year, but you will have to attend a women’s game to cut the queue. For the first time, in addition to the standard first-come, first-served ticket sales to season-ticket holders, the Athletic Department will be holding raffles at women’s basketball games on Feb. 6 against St. John’s, Feb. 20 against DePaul and Feb. 23 against South Florida. Students attending those games can enter a raffle and must be present to claim their prize, a pass that allows them to cut the line of students patiently camping out for tickets and purchase a reserved one at their leisure. According to Assistant Director of Marketing Andrew Rowdon, Georgetown expects to receive less than 100 student tickets from the conference, which must divvy tickets among all 16 member teams – even the four that do not make the tournament. “If they get back to us and say, `100,’ we’d be very happy,” Rowdon said, although he added that it is almost certain that the number of tickets will be “in the double digits.” The Big East tournament will be held March 12-15 at Madison Square Garden in New York, but Easter recess does not begin until March 19 and spring break is the week of March 3-7, so the Hoyas will be in class when the team makes its run in New York unlike in years past. Students will not be on break to attend the tournament, but it is likely that Georgetown will sell out its allotment of tickets.
