High School Highlights: 2001: all-New York state field hockey, first team . 2000: all-New York state field hockey.
When did you first start playing field hockey? In seventh grade – that was when the public school I was going to started playing. It was between field hockey, volleyball or football, and I decided field hockey was the best. I didn’t want to be inside. I’d rather be outside.
What was the best moment in your career so far? Last year I had a dive-in goal against Davidson. I also remember the Lehigh game that the rest of the team thinks was the worst of our season. One of their offenders lifted the ball into the cage, but I passed our goalie and batted it down. I’ve had a few very nice defensive saves.
Who’s your biggest rival? That’s tough. We always get really psyched for teams that we know are pretty hard. UPenn is pretty good. UPenn especially.
What is the biggest sacrifice you have had to make for field hockey? Well, my first freshman season, I tore my ACL and was not able to play for a whole season. So I took a year off and went abroad to Italy. . So I have to say a year of my life.
What do you do to get psyched for a game? Dance parties, lots of dancing. We love our music. I would say that it is our No. 1 “psycher-upper.”
What music are you currently listening to? Lately I have been listening to a lot of hip-hop. I am a big fan of U2 and Coldplay. . The Killers are great.
If you could be great at any other sport or event besides field hockey, what would it be and why? Basketball. I really wanted to be a basketball player, but then I came to reality and realized that wasn’t going to happen. It’s so much fun to play.
What is your biggest fear on or off the field? Well, my biggest fear off the field is that I won’t get into med school. On the field, probably getting hit in the face with the ball. I don’t know why but I am not really afraid of anything else. It’s almost nonexistent, but I don’t want to be cheesy and say I am not afraid of anything.
Where is your favorite place to be in Georgetown? I like hanging out with my friends at a restaurant. Any restaurant with good company.
Freshman dorm? Darnall. I was one of 25 freshmen in Darnall. . It was a little rough. We pretty much got to do whatever we wanted. Our RA wasn’t too strict, so we had lots of parties.
Anything you want to do before you graduate? I saw in the freshman facebook this year a list of 100 things, and there are a few I want to do. I really want to get into Healy tower, but I do not know how. I will have to pull some of my connections and get a key or something.
Who is your biggest inspiration? I was trying to think . the most helpful and inspirational for me was my high school basketball coach, Ms. Brenda Hamm. She was my math teacher, my advisor, I babysat her kids. . She has a huge impact for me.
Most prized possession? I would say my scrapbook from Italy and pictures. There is one of my sister and I on the beach that is kind of fuzzy and out of focus, but it is a fun picture. I got really into photography when I was over there.
What one word would your friends use to describe you? [Turns to coach] What would you say? There isn’t one word to describe me! I don’t want to be cheesy . and of course you are writing this all down! I would say “spontaneous” or “caring.”
Favorite food? Ice cream, absolutely ice cream. Ben and Jerry’s Mint Chocolate Cookie.
What made you choose Georgetown for college? Partially because I could play field hockey here. It came down to here and Cornell, and I really didn’t like Cornell. I love D.C. and the city, and my brother [Micah Bump, COL ’01] was here. That was the initial reason why I did not want to come, but it turned out pretty helpful having him around.
Favorite TV show? I don’t watch much TV, though I do enjoy “The Real World” and “America’s Next Top Model.” We saw one of the guys who teaches the girls to walk on the catwalk. My best friend and I saw him at a Wendy’s.
Favorite movie? I’m a sucker for the emotional chick flicks. Wedding Crashers was hilarious.
Laptop or desktop? Laptop. Mac.
What is your biggest pet peeve? I hate when people have their pants tucked into the back of their shoe. I don’t know why, but it pisses the hell out of me.
Favorite way to relax? I like to go out and watch a movie with my friends, or go to a good restaurant. A night out is always a lot of fun.
Favorite Georgetown restaurant? I love Georgetown because it has every ethnic variety you would want. That is basically asking me what food I like the best. I like Heritage India a lot, and I also like Bistro Med.
The thing you miss the most about home? My mama’s cooking. See the thing with my mom is that she throws everything together and makes it taste good and can never reproduce it. Actually, my mama’s cooking and my bed back home. The beds here are awful at Georgetown.
Who on the team do you rely on the most? Tara ead [COL ’06]. She is very in tune with the social goings on of the team, and she notices everything I don’t notice. She has great input and suggestions, and she is always willing to help out.
Any advice for people who want to join field hockey? We’re always happy to have someone who is ready to give their all. We want someone who wants to have fun and give us their all. That is all I want.
Booey’s or Wisey’s? Booey’s. ore variety and less grease.
