Dimolitsas Hires Permanent Director for New Benefits Office

Hoya Staff Writer Friday, May 19, 2006

Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Spiros Dimolitsas has named former Stanford administrator Charles DeSantis as Georgetown’s new associate vice president for benefits. DeSantis will oversee the administration of employee pension plans, health insurance and retirement programs. DeSantis will take office effective May 22, replacing Interim Director of Benefits Vivian urphy as the leader of the Office of Faculty and Staff Benefits. A native of San Francisco, Calif., DeSantis comes to Georgetown from PacAdvantage, a nonprofit company that provides small businesses with access to health care benefits, where he served as the vice president for operations. Previously, DeSantis served as associate director of benefits services at Stanford University and as senior director of human resources at Gap, Inc. before joining PacAdvantage in 2005. “Charles joins Georgetown with a demonstrated record of leadership in benefits services,” Dimolitsas said in an e-mail to benefits personnel. “He has experience successfully designing, implementing and managing complex benefits programs for a variety of distinct environments.” DeSantis’ move to Georgetown comes at “an important time to address benefits issues at Georgetown,” Dimolistsas said. Many Georgetown employees had to switch benefits plans in January 2005 because the previous health plan was no longer available. DeSantis said in a university statement that he hopes to use the newly created associate vice president position to provide the best options and services to employees by listening to the needs of the community. He said he will focus on “setting up an infrastructure that has people really dedicated to service.”
