While most Georgetown students were relaxing during their summer, sophomore James Graham got a taste of gold at the USA Track and Field Junior National Championships at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas June 23-24.
Graham took the 400-meter title with a personal best of 46.69 seconds, the third fastest mark ever set by a Hoya in the event. Graham is less than three hundredths of a second off of the fastest mark of 46.4 set by Pat Mann in 1987. The first-place finish also secured him a spot on the U.S. team at the World Junior Track and Field Championships to be held October 14 to 23 in Santiago, Chile.
Graham, along with fellow sophomores Erin Sicher and Ethan Kearns, represented the Hoyas at the meet, which required that all competitors be between the ages of 14-19.
Sicher finished third in the women’s 1,500 meters with a time of 4:34.83, while Kearns game in at 15:35.29, taking eighth place in the men’s 5000 meters.
