GUSA Holds Diversity Week

GUSA-sponsored Diversity Week is slated to run next Monday through Friday and will highlight all types of diversity on campus.

Each day will highlight different topics including gender diversity, politics and sports, religion and social justice, culture and finally race and ethnicity.

“Our goal is to expose students to the fact that Georgetown is made up of people from all different walks of life, who have a diversity of interests, ideas and opinions,” Samantha Williams (COL ’06), vice chair of the GUSA Diversity and Religious Affairs Committee, said.

This is the program’s third year and various campus clubs sponsor different events on the individual days. This year, there will be an increased focus on other types of diversity beyond race issues, although it will be addressed on the final day.

“We’re not trying to make any vain attempts at completely turning around anyone’s prejudices or ignorance,” Williams said. “However, we want to show that at Georgetown there is diversity to be found among students, whether you’re talking to a group of kids from all one race, or if you have a cultural smorgasbord of people.”
