Habitat Scoops Up Donations

Georgetown University’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity raised over $700 from Ben and Jerry’s fundraising events over the past two weeks. Nearly two percent of the money needed to sponsor a Georgetown “Habitat” House was generated.

Activities included a coin toss game held on Oct. 20 in Red Square where participants could win coupons for a free pint of ice cream. On Oct. 27, the Ben and Jerry’s Scoop Truck distributed free ice cream to students gathered in Healy Circle. Individual donations, along with Ben and Jerry’s donation of $100, raised almost $650. In a demonstration, Habitat for Humanity also displayed how they build a wall from plywood for a house.

Although Ben and Jerry’s brought the Scoop Truck to 43 colleges and universities throughout the country, Georgetown raised twice as much money as any other school.

The Georgetown Habitat Chapter has been trying to raise enough money for their own house for several years now with other fundraising events like the selling of Habitat T-shirts.
