When did you first start playing hockey? I first started playing hockey when I was eight. I started because it was around the time Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins were winning Stanley Cups and so it was something a lot of my friends were starting too.
Who’s your biggest rival? Our biggest rivals are Duke and Virginia. We play them each twice a year in our league. Last year we beat both of them on our way to our first ACC championship, and this year we’ll have to go through them both again.
What was the best moment in your career so far? Winning the ACC championship last year 7-5 over Virginia.
What is a typical hockey practice like? A lot of skating, a lot of hitting, a lot of shooting, a lot of intensity, a lot of scoring goals. We rely on our captain John Stebbins (COL ’06) and his brute force . to keep practices under control.
Do you see Georgetown Hockey ever becoming a varsity sport? Possibly, but a lot will need to happen before that will become a reality. Not in the next couple of years, but maybe in the future. And yes, I would like to see it as a varsity sport someday. The main issue seems to be funding and getting interest up.
If you could change one thing about ice hockey, what would it be? Nothing. Ice hockey is the most perfect sport in the world.
Who on the team do you rely on the most? I rely on my linemates, Luke Holden (MSB ’07) and Dave Glynn, (COL ’08), the most because . we score a lot of goals together and it takes some chemistry to get that done. I also rely on the rest of my teammates, because it’s going to take a team effort to win our second straight ACC Championship.
What was the last song you listen to on your iPod? I don’t have an iPod.
If you could be great at any other sport or event besides hockey, what would it be? I’d rather not play any other sport but hockey.
What event are you looking forward to most this winter Olympics?
Should be self-explanatory.
Do you have any superstitions? No.
Do you do anything to get psyched up for a game? We turn on our newly acquired Milwaukee heavy duty team radio, which I’m told can sustain an eight-foot drop onto solid concrete by the way, to listen to such classics like “Safety Dance,”Opus,”Brass Bonanza” and “Deceptacon.” We also drink a lot of “Rip-It’s.”
What’s your favorite thing to do at Georgetown when you are not playing hockey? That’s a good question. Maybe hiding behind walls and scaring people . or eating Wisey’s.
Favorite Georgetown Professor?
Li Wenhui, he’s taught me Chinese for three and a half semesters now. He continues to help me even as I continue to struggle with it.
The best thing to eat at Leo’s? Chicken parmesan.
Freshmen dorm? Village C West. There’s a bunch of funny moments from my floor last year . [like] when my door knob broke on two separate occasions and my roommate and I were locked in our room. We also acquired some play-pen balls in our lounge which we would throw at passer-bys out the windows. Let’s just say living with Buffalo Dan Vinson (NHS ’08) is an opportunity everyone should be lucky enough to enjoy.
Who’s your biggest inspiration? My biggest inspiration is probably Mario Lemieux, he’s pretty much the reason I’m a hockey player today.
The thing you miss the most about home? Besides my family and friends, maybe Steeler football Sundays. Being around the atmosphere of the city of Pittsburgh would have been exciting this year with the Superbowl and all.
Most embarrassing moment? The most embarrassing thing I have ever been a part of was seeing the Virginia hockey team’s recruiting video, it’s the worst. How embarrassing.
Favorite food? Chicken parmesan or pasta
What is your dream job? I don’t have a dream job. Anything where I can make a bunch of money and have at least a little fun doing it.
Who is the most interesting person you have ever met? Our Head Coach John Kokidko. He is a real inspiration to us. I think Kokidko’s coaching style is truly unique and un-heralded. We couldn’t be where we are today without the efforts of Coach Kokidko.
How would people describe you in one word? Believable
Favorite Movie? “The Big Lebowski.” You just have to see it to understand.
Favorite book? I don’t read books.
What were you doing when Georgetown beat Duke? I was at the game, preparing to rush the court, trying to figure out how I could get into a hoop and hang on the rim . but it didn’t happen.
What advice do you have for people who want to join Georgetown Hockey? Check out the website, www.georgetownhockey.com, and get in touch with me or one of the players. We’re looking for players with skills, the ability to make strong moves, and the ability to get along with a bunch of dudes.
How long do you see yourself playing hockey for? Until I can’t physically skate anymore, which hopefully will be never.
Booey’s or Wisey’s? Wisey’s. I like making up names for whatever I order. I’ve been going Biblical lately like for example Moses, or Jebediah, etc.
