Hoyas Earn Eleventh Win, Eclipsing Last Year’s Total

Connecticut (Dec. 7)

L, 84-26

The Hoyas ended their seven-game winning streak when they crumbled before then-No.7 Connecticut. The Huskies took a 55-12 lead at the half and held the Hoyas scoreless for the final seven minutes. Every Connecticut player scored, but Georgetown made only 10 of 48 attempted field goals in the lowest offensive output in program history.

Florida Atlantic (Dec. 9)

W, 69-40

The Hoyas preyed on the Sun Belt champions of Florida Atlantic, limiting the Owls to 15-for-51 from the floor. On offense, junior guard Kristin Heidloff broke her early season funk, going 8-of-9 from the floor for 19 points, including a perfect 3-of-3 from the three-point line.

Penn. State (Dec. 17)

L, 52-44

Georgetown squandered a potential win over Penn. State on Dec. 17, overcoming an 11-point deficit to take a one-point lead with three minutes to play. They surrendered a 10-2 run to end the game. The Hoyas had a whopping 19 offensive rebounds to the Nittany Lions’ eight, but Lions senior forward Amanda Brown hit five free throws late in the game to seal the victory for Penn. State.

Savannah State (Dec. 20)

W, 77-50

The Hoyas warmed up for their January Big East play by defeating the unaffiliated Tigers on Dec. 20. Junior forward Kieraah Marlow had 30 points for the Hoyas off the bench to lead all scorers.

Utah (Dec. 30)

W, 60-57

Georgetown won its tenth game of the season on Dec. 30, reaching last year’s win total with 15 games still remaining. Sophomore forward Katrina Wheeler scored 16 points, but the Hoyas saw their 13-point second-half lead nearly disintegrate in the final minutes. Still, Utah missed several free throws and a three-pointer with less than a minute remaining and could not capitalize on late Georgetown fouls to complete the comeback.

Cincinnati (Jan. 3)

L, 77-50

After capitalizing on a favorable home schedule, the Hoyas entered Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena looking for their first Big East Win but the Bearcats capitalized on hot three-point shooting to take the game. Wheeler, Marlow and freshman guard Shanice Fuller combined for 40 points. Otherwise, the Hoyas could not muster much offense, shooting 2-of-13 from three-point range. Cincinnati sophomore center Michelle Jones posted a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds.

St. John’s (Jan. 6)

W, 53-45

The Red Storm returned all-Big East senior guard Kia Wright after she missed six games with a sports hernia. While Wright was cold, going 1-of-13 from the floor, Marlow scored her 1,000th career point. Junior guard Kristin Heidloff also had a hot hand, scoring 15 points and recording four steals. The win was Georgetown’s first this season in the Big East. Last year the Hoyas won three times in conference play.
