The Georgetown crew team opened up its season this weekend with the Head of the Potomac Regatta. The Hoyas placed four finishers in the top six of the men’s four with cox, with the Hoyas’ C-team finishing second with a time of 16:11.0, 32 seconds behind the time posted by the first place US Naval Academy. The Georgetown A-team finished close behind in third, with a time of 16:16.5. The D- and B-teams finished fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 16:20.8 and 16:30.0.
Georgetown raced three teams in the men’s open eight, with the A-team placing fourth in a time of 14:03.3. The B-team placed fifth exactly six seconds later. The C-team finished well back, in 10th place, in 15:07.4.
The Hoyas did not fare as well in the men’s club eight. Georgetown’s A-team ended the race in ninth place with a time of 14:45.1. The C- and B-teams weren’t quite as successful, coming in 14th and 15th, respectively. The U.S. Naval Academy won the event with a time of 14:05.6.
The women’s team also raced this past weekend. In the women’s club eight, the A team came in seventh, posting a time of 17:28.6, while the B-team finished two spots back with a time of 17:42.2.
The women’s open eight saw Georgetown fair slightly better, with the A-team placing fifth in a time of 16:37.5. The B-team finished farther back with a time of 17:12.2, good enough for a seventh place finish.
George Washington and George Mason also raced at the regatta.
The crew team’s next competition will be the Head of the Charles Regatta, held on Oct. 21 in Boston.
