Adam Hansen
The good news for Georgetown on Saturday is that after last week, Marist junior running back Adam Hansen has nowhere to go but down.
Hansen scored four touchdowns in the Red Foxes’ 35-18 pasting of St. Peter’s in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on Oct. 28. Hansen’s four scores seven days ago will undoubtedly be at the forefront of the Hoya defense’s consciousness when Marist tries to crash Homecoming weekend on the Hilltop.
While he sports a Red Fox on his helmet, Hansen’s full-steam-ahead running style lends more to comparisons to a stubborn bull. Hansen leads the Marist rushing attack with 294 yards on the season and was named MAAC co-offensive player of the week for his effort against the Peacocks.
Hansen seems to be finally finding his game late in the season. Before his astonishing outburst last week, Hansen had reached the end zone only twice in the Red Foxes’ previous eight games. Hansen’s offensive production comes in spurts, as he ran for 154 yards in a 41-13 thrashing of La Salle the first week of October. The New Jersey native added an exclamation point to his team’s second win of the season, rumbling 66 yards for a third-quarter touchdown and effectively sabotaging the Explorers’ voyage.
Huck Correia
Given Georgetown’s turnover woes, senior safety Huck Correia should be licking his chops. Correia is the wiliest of the Red Foxes, and will lie in wait for the first lame duck to wobble over the middle. The 5-foot-10 Pittsfield, Mass., native has two interceptions on the year, good enough to lead his defensive mates.
Correia has also forced two fumbles this season, proving that he can lay the hammer on fleet-of-foot receivers and sturdy running backs alike. He is second on the team with 71 tackles, and is always a threat to blitz from his spot deep in the defensive backfield.
Correia’s stellar play has stood amidst a Marist defense that, as a whole, is porous. Correia notched 15 tackles in a 40-10 loss to Duquesne two weeks ago, the lone silver lining in a storm cloud of futility for the Foxes, and he was named MAAC Defensive player of the week following an eight-tackle, one-interception performance in a 13-9 defeat at Fordham on Oct. 17.
It was the latest in a long list of honors for Correia, who was named an Honorable Mention Mid-Major all-American and first-team all-MAAC his junior year, as well as the conference’s defensive rookie of the year in 2003.
