Despite facing off on April Fool’s day, Navy’s star-attacker junior Ian Dingman and company could not stop the Georgetown men’s lacrosse team as the then-No. 5 Hoyas defeated the then-No. 8 Midshipmen 9-5 to solidify the Hoyas’ position as one of the nation’s top teams. Three weeks later, and a week after stumbling against ECAC-foe Loyola, the men once again asserted their place among America’s best with an 8-6 victory over traditional rival No. 8 UMass.
Four days later, the then-No. 3 Georgetown women’s lacrosse team took a ride up to College Park for a much-anticipated meeting with then-No. 7 Maryland and the game did not disappoint, as the Hoyas needed to work overtime to pull out an 11-10 victory. Junior attacker Brittany Baschuk scored the game winner in the overtime period, her second golden goal in as many games.
Meanwhile, April 8 belonged to freshman Lise Ogrodnick. The track star qualified for the NCAA regional championships and broke the school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:39.73 at the Duke Invitational.
Back on the lacrosse field, April 19 saw two of the top women’s lacrosse teams square off when then-No. 3 Georgetown played host to then-No. 4 Virginia. The game would not be as close as the rankings, however as Georgetown prevailed 8-4. Junior attacker Schuyler Sutton scored a career-high four goals and proved to be the difference in the match.
The women’s lacrosse team extended their conference win streak to 33 games on Apr. 22 when they defeated Big East rival Connecticut 12-8 in Storrs, Conn. Junior Coco Stanwick had four goals en route to bolstering her case for Tewaaraton Trophy consideration. Stanwick was also credited with 11 draw controls, and with seven more coming Wednesday at James Madison, she now has 100 on the season – a new Georgetown and NCAA record.
