For Georgetown men’s basketball, February was its toughest month. Georgetown started off exceptionally well with a 61-58 win over then-No. 9 Pittsburgh and finished strong with a Senior Day victory over Big East rival Syracuse.
The game against the Panthers was to be the Hoyas’ toughest since Duke. The Hoyas were up to the challenge, however, as sophomore forward Jeff Green led the way with 22 points and four boards as Georgetown iced the game late in the second half with a 14-2 run.
After tough losses to then-No. 9 West Virginia, Marquette, and then-No. 4 Villanova, Georgetown rebounded with wins against Rutgers and Syracuse. Against the Orange, Georgetown honored its five seniors with a 68-53 win.
February was nearly an historic month for women’s basketball as the Hoyas nearly upset then-No. 16 DePaul. Unfortunately, Georgetown couldn’t quite make enough plays down the stretch despite 22 points from sophomore forward Kieraah arlow.
The Georgetown baseball team kicked off its season in February and finished the month on a four-game winning streak, including a Feb. 28 win over George Mason that featured senior first basemen Ryan Craft crushing two homeruns.
Elsewhere, the Hoyas sent 20 swimmers and divers to the Big East championships, 20 more than last year. The Hoyas were led by freshmen Goran Bistric who broke a school record in the 200-yard butterfly.
