Boathouse Lawsuit Against D.C. Thrown Out

Jack’s Boathouse owner Paul Simkin lost a key case against the Washington, D.C. government last week.

The United States Court for the District of Columbia dismissed Simkin’s case, which claimed that the National Parks Service did not have jurisdiction over the land which houses his boat rental and storage business because of an improper transfer process between the NPS and the District.

The NPS declined to renew the lease of Jack’s Boathouse in January and requested new tenants shortly thereafter through a concession process. Simkin has been fighting the decision in court, but recently the NPS selected a winning bidder, B & G Outdoor Recreation, to take over the site pending resolution of the legal issues.

The court has not yet ruled on Simkin’s separate case against the NPS. Simkin has said that he will not vacate the premises without a court order.
