Student favorite Tuscany Cafe on Prospect Street is permanently closed, The Hoya has confirmed.
An employee named Joe, who would not provide his last name, said the owner announced to the employees that the cafe would be closing at the end of May. He said the reason for the closing was unclear.
“They just announced it at the last week of May, so maybe he was not sure if he was going to close or not,” Joe said. “I don’t know exactly [why it is closing]. It’s just the owner.”
Public records show that Tuscany’s license was set to expire May 31. According to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, Aokas Brothers Inc.’s license was not renewed. The DCRA could not provide information as to whether or not Tuscany applied to renew its license.
Joe, who had been an employee at the cafe for more than three years, said he was sad that Tuscany was closing.
“We have a lot of good customers, we have a lot of friends from Georgetown, so we were happy working there,” he said.
