With the snowy weather behind us, it’s time to return to the markets! Here are some of the best offerings around Washington, D.C., along with a handy guide on how to spend a full day-trip shopping around — a method tried and tested by your own Georgetown University students!
Georgetown Flea Market (Sundays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Begin at our local flea market, located on Wisconsin Avenue just north of S Street. You can walk about 20 minutes or take the 10-minute GUTS Wisconsin Shuttle from campus. You’ll find antiques, collectibles, jewelry, clothing and art.
Dupont Circle Farmers Market (Sundays, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) and/or Dupont Little Flea Market (Sundays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Walk from the Georgetown Flea Market about 30 minutes, or take the GUTS Dupont Shuttle from campus about 15 minutes to the Dupont Circle area. The Farmers Market is just northwest of the Dupont Circle Metro Station, and the Flea Market is at the corner of 19th and Q streets NW. You’ll find fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, food and drinks at the Farmers Market, and housewares, LPs and micro-local art at the Little Flea Market.
Capitol Hill Eastern Market (Saturday & Sunday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Take a 20-minute Metro from Dupont to Capitol Hill or the GUTS Rosslyn Shuttle and then metro to Capitol Hill from campus — which takes only about 35 minutes — to enjoy the Eastern Market! To get back on campus, take the Metro back to Dupont Circle or Rosslyn and then a 35-minute GUTS bus (if you time it right). You’ll find an outdoor and indoor market with fresh food, produce, community events and arts and crafts.
