Star Hoyas first-year center Thomas Sorber will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on a left foot injury he suffered Feb. 15, the Georgetown University men’s basketball team announced in a post on social platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Feb. 25.
Sorber sustained the injury, which the team previously referred to as turf toe, in an awkward fall during Georgetown’s 97-86 loss to Butler University on Feb. 15. Sorber will undergo surgery Feb. 26.
In the social media post, the team said Sorber is expected to make a full recovery.
“On Saturday, February 15, freshman Thomas Sorber suffered a left foot injury that necessitates surgery,” the post said. “He will undergo surgery on Wednesday, February 26 and a full recovery is expected. He will not play the remainder of the 2024-25 season.”
Since losing Sorber during the Butler game Feb. 15, the Hoyas have gone 1-2, winning against Providence College and losing against Butler and Creighton University. Sorber, a seven-time Big East freshman of the week, started nearly every game this season. He averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.
With Sorber’s first-year season now over, Georgetown fans’ attention will now turn to whether Sorber decides to declare for the NBA draft or stay in Washington, D.C., for another season. Sorber is a projected late first-round pick if he decides to declare, according to ESPN’s latest mock draft.
This is a developing story.
