This afternoon the Georgetown women’s lacrosse team will take on Connecticut (6-3, 0-1 Big East) in its second conference game of the season. No. 17 Georgetown (2-5, 1-0 Big East) captured its first Big East victory last Friday against Villanova in its conference opener.

The Hoyas are now 2-5 on the season after suffering a tough loss to then-No. 12 Princeton (4-3, 1-0 Ivy) last Sunday. An early second-half lead looked promising for the Blue and Gray, but the Tigers made a late comeback to edge the Hoyas, 12-11.

The Huskies enter Friday’s game fresh off a 17-9 win over St. Bonaventure, which ended a two-game UConn losing streak after defeats to Canisius and Rutgers.

Senior attack and captain Jordy Kirr leads Georgetown with 19 points on 10 goals and nine assists. Following close behind is sophomore midfielder Sophia Thomas, who was named to the Big East honor roll earlier this week for her four-goal performance against Villanova. Thomas is the first player from Georgetown to be honored by the conference this season.

Connecticut is led by freshman midfielder Lauren Kahn, who has managed 25 goals and 11 assists so far this season. Junior attacker M.E. Lapham is also a threat, leading the Huskies with 30 goals.

The offensive duo of Kahn and Lapham has combined for 21 ground balls and 27 draw controls, and together they lead a balanced UConn attack. Both players were named to the Big East honor roll earlier this season for their play against Sacred Heart and Iona.

The Hoyas own a 10-0 all-time record against the Huskies. Last season, Georgetown had little trouble with Connecticut at home and cruised to an 18-9 victory. Current seniors attack Jacqueline Giles and midfielder and captain Mary Beth Brophy led the way for the Hoyas in that game, scoring three and two goals, respectively.

Today’s opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Storrs, Conn. On Sunday, Georgetown will return home to face Yale at 2 p.m. at Multi-Sport Facility.
