After a historic run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament and a second-place finish in the Big East’s National Division in 2010, Head Coach Dave Nolan and the Georgetown women’s soccer team enter the 2011 campaign with hopes of reaching and exceeding last year’s heights.

Senior forward Camille Trujillo and redshirt senior midfielder Ingrid Wells will lead the charge for theHoyas this fall after tallying a school-record 28 points apiece in the Blue and Gray’s breakout year. Georgetown returns two other dangerous attackers in senior Sam Baker — hero of the Hoyas’ Sweet 16 victory over Minnesota — and sophomore forward Kaitlin Brenn to a front line that netted an impressive 2.04 goals per game last season.

In addition to the offensive fireworks, the Blue and Gray’s rock-solid back line posted the second-best defensive mark in conference play, allowing just 0.81 goals per game in 2010. While the Hoyas must cope with losing centerback Michaela Buonomo and goalkeeper Jackie DesJardin to graduation, they will be looking to senior defender Gabby Miller for veteran leadership alongside sophomores MaryKroening and Emily Menges.

In last season’s strong performances against elite programs such as Maryland and Notre Dame, theHoyas proved that they could play with the nation’s best. Despite several setbacks along the way, the Blue and Gray made history by earning the first three NCAA tournament wins in program history.

Now, with a squad returning eight starters to the pitch this fall, Georgetown has a great shot at adding to that total.
