Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business (MSB) reported record employment statistics for its undergraduate Class of 2023 in its annual Undergraduate Employment Report, published Feb. 8.
Students in the MSB undergraduate Class of 2023 recorded an average starting salary of $100,859, an average signing bonus of $10,291 and 97.3% of students who sought employment received an offer within three months of graduation. Top employers included Bank of America, McKinsey and Morgan Stanley.
Talia Schatz, assistant dean at the Georgetown McDonough Undergraduate Career Development Center, said the unparalleled statistics from the Class of 2023 stemmed from their diligence and dedication.
“The record-setting employment outcomes in this year’s report are a result of the hard work and dedication of the Class of 2023,” Schatz wrote to The Hoya. “We are grateful to the entire community of faculty, staff, and alumni for supporting our undergraduate students throughout their time at McDonough, and we look forward to seeing the impact our students make in their post-graduate careers and beyond.”
Anjali Bobba (MSB ’23), a member of the record-breaking undergraduate class, said the MSB helped her pursue her career in human resources at Johnson & Johnson, a healthcare and pharmaceutical company.
“Georgetown gave me the tools to excel not only in the HR field but also as a contributing member of society,” Bobba wrote to The Hoya. “The MSB facilitated an environment where I was surrounded by like-minded peers who had a commitment to academic excellence and an innovative mindset with the overarching goal of leaving the world better than we found it.”
Schatz said the McDonough Career Center advises students on personal advancement and securing career opportunities through internships and post-graduate job offers.
“The McDonough Career Center is committed to providing a transformative experience for our students as they explore, build their networks, and identify careers that align with their goals,” Schatz said.
“We look forward to seeing the impact our students make in their post-graduate careers and beyond,” she added.
Bobba added that the Georgetown Jesuit value of cura personalis, the care of the whole person and community, inspired her contribution back to the school.
“Since graduating, I’ve found that my commitment to the Jesuit value of service has only grown stronger,” Bobba said. “I’m eager to carry forward the passion and care instilled in me by my classmates as I continue to contribute to the community.”
Bobba said her colleagues during her undergraduate MSB experience reminded her to give back to the school that supported her success.
“The class of ’23 is diverse in more ways than one, specifically the diversity of thought presented in each of my classmates,” Bobba wrote. “My peers challenged traditional ways of problem solving and exposed me to numerous ways of thinking that furthered my development both personally and professionally. I would not be who I am today without the knowledge they have imparted on me.”
Tina Yang (MSB ’27) said the 2023 class report inspired her to set personal goals of landing an engaging position by the time she graduates.
“Learning about the Class of 2023’s statistics spurred me into action in a way and set an amazing standard for what I hope to achieve by the time I graduate from Georgetown,” Yang told The Hoya.
Yang said the record-breaking statistics reminded her to take advantage of the opportunities the MSB creates for students, such as the McDonough Career Center.
“The recent statistics and the incredible work of the graduating class reminds me to take advantage of the unique opportunities that the MSB can offer and work with the rest of my class to live up to the standard that they have set,” Yang said.
“As a freshman, or a first-year student, looking for summer internships and thinking about my future in the MSB, the Class of 2023 is so inspiring and is a testament to what can be done with an education from the McDonough School of Business, or any Georgetown education,” Yang added.
