Julian Vaughn is headed to Antwerp, Belgium this year to play for the Giants.

Former men’s basketball center Julian Vaughn has signed for Belgium’s Antwerp Giants, becoming the latest Hoya to break into the European leagues.

According to the Giants’ website, Vaughn will be joining a team that finished fifth in the Belgian League’s regular season standings with a .530 winning percentage last year.

Vaughn, a sophomore transfer from Florida State, wrote of the decision in a post on his Facebook profile Tuesday.

“Too many days of hard work and sacrifice to count. Aug 17 it all finally pays off … literally. Fulfilled my dream to play professional basketball, one step closer to the big stage,” he wrote.

The 6-foot-9 Vaughn will add some height to the Giants’ roster, stepping in as the second-tallest member of the team. He joins four other American-born players to round out an 11-man roster.

Vaughn became a central part of Head Coach John Thompson III’s frontcourt his senior year, averaging 7.8 points in 23.6 minutes per contest.

With the current NBA lockout, interest in overseas leagues has heightened, boosting the likelihood of greater talent there. Former Georgetown star and Pistons player Greg Monroe recently told the Georgetown Patch that he was considering the European leagues as a possible option.
