Groceries

Trader Joe’s

Known for its unbeatable frozen food and desserts, Trader Joe’s is a Hoya staple. Because of its inexpensive products, many Hoyas rely on Trader Joe’s to source products for their cooking endeavors (when they need to switch it up with Leo’s, that is).

Glover Park location: 2101 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Walk or take the Wisconsin Avenue GUTS bus from Lombardi Circle to 2115 Wisconsin Ave. (it drops you off literally right in front!)

Foggy Bottom location: 1101 25th St. NW. Take the DC Circulator heading to Dupont Circle or Union Station and use 30N or 30S to get back.

Safeway

For its deli, pharmacy and Starbucks, Safeway could be your preferred choice depending on the occasion. Safeway offers a better selection of brands than Trader Joe’s, but is often a tad more expensive, although signing up for a Safeway membership unlocks a number of good deals.

Glover Park location: 1855 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Walk or take the Wisconsin Avenue GUTS bus from Lombardi Circle to 2115 Wisconsin Ave — it’s a three-minute walk from there.

Rosslyn location: 1525 Wilson Blvd. Take the Rosslyn GUTS bus to its stop near Rosslyn Metro station — it’s about a five-minute walk from there.

Whole Foods

More expensive than the aforementioned spots, Whole Foods offers a smattering of fresh produce, hot and cold food bars and an Amazon locker to pick up packages if the ones on campus are full.

Location: 2323 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Take the Wisconsin Avenue GUTS bus to its stop at 37th Street and Calvert Street NW and walk for about three minutes.

Packages

Amazon Lockers on Campus

You can order Amazon packages straight to campus to the Amazon Hub Locker in the Leavey Center, denoted on Amazon as “Pickup and returns at Georgetown.” The locker is on the first floor of the Leavey Center. If you take the Regents stairs, walk through the glass doors into Sellinger Lounge and turn left. Go past the bathrooms and turn right down the hallway.

Other Packages

Georgetown offers package pickups from lockers in the LXR lobby, Kennedy Hall lobby and Leavey Center North Gallery. University mail services employees will generally put your package in the locker nearest your dorm. You’ll get an email when and where they’re ready with a pickup code to access your package.

Mail

Oversized packages and letters will go to the Leavey Mailroom, next to Royal Jacket Deli in the Leavey Center. Again, you’ll get an email when they’re ready.

External Package Services

UPS offers package shipping and receiving, as well as other services including packing and fingerprinting for any clearances required for jobs. Location: 3220 N St. NW, about a 10-minute walk from campus. FedEx also allows you to send or return packages; you can also print flyers, get posters and purchase all manner of group project supplies there. Location: 3329 M St. NW, about a 15-minute walk from campus.

Convenience

Off-Campus

At the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and O Street, CVS has all your typical drugstore products from Advil to shampoo. CVS stays open 24 hours a day, except for the pharmacy, which closes at 9 p.m. on weekdays and at 5 p.m. on weekends, and offers flu vaccines and booster shots during the fall. Location: 1403 Wisconsin Ave. NW.

On-Campus

Vital Vittles

The student-run convenience store is perfect for that moment when you want a pint of late-night ice cream, DIG mac and cheese, or vitamin C packets. It’s open until 1 a.m. in the Leavey Center. To get there, enter the Leavey Center via the bridge from Arrupe Hall and turn right upon entering.

Hoya Snaxa

Offering snacks, drinks and sweet treats, the Southwest Quad snack shop is located between Kennedy and Reynolds halls as you walk under the buildings towards Cooper Field. It’s open until 1 a.m. nightly.

Glover Park Ace Hardware at 2233 Wisconsin Ave. NW is the nearest hardware store to campus and offers a full selection of hardware store products.

Haircuts & Styling

Georgetown Hairstyling

Georgetown Hairstyling is an old-school barbershop offering cuts for $30 at 1329 35th St. NW.

Aveda Salon and Spa

Aveda Salon and Spa at 1325 Wisconsin Ave. NW offers a more deluxe and more expensive experience with all-natural plant-based products — but haircuts will run you $110+ for women (cut and style) and $70+ for men. The hack is to book an appointment on Mondays, when they offer 20% off for students.

O Salon

O Salon is conveniently located a few blocks from campus at 3212 O St. NW and is known for offering a wide range of products, but also for being pricier.

La Veronique Georgetown

La Veronique Georgetown at 1208 31st St. NW, which also offers nail grooming and waxing, uses organic products and has a relaxing spa setting, but haircuts will run you $75+ for women (cut without style) and $70+ for men (both pre-discount). They offer students 15% off on nails and waxing and 20% off on haircuts on Tuesdays only.

Bookstores

On-Campus

The Leavey Center Barnes and Noble, accessible just off Sellinger Lounge, stocks textbooks, Georgetown merchandise and other books; however, its prices are often fairly high. Other textbook sellers, particularly the online ThriftBooks, can often offer you better deals.

Off-Campus

Bridge Street Books at 2814 Pennsylvania Ave. NW offers a hearty selection of new nonfiction, with a particular focus on the humanities, including philosophy, politics and history.

Further afield, Kramers at 1517 Connecticut Ave. NW in Dupont Circle is a neighborhood institution offering a broad selection of new books, largely quirky fiction and popular nonfiction, and some card games.

Barnes and Noble is also set to open a massive new location at 3040 M St. NW in October.
