Staffer of the Week: Hiromi Oka

HiromiOnce a week, The Hoya recognizes a staffer that has done a particularly awesome job – now you can get to know about them too. As part of our Leavey 421 series, we’ll be posting quick interviews with each Staffer of the Week!

Name Hiromi Oka
Position on The Hoya City News Senior Editor
School SFS
Year 2015
Major Undecided
Hometown Houston, Texas

What did you do to earn Staffer of the Week?

I reported on a Georgetown Law Center student who was convicted for selling meth and I also wrote a story about the Pope’s resignation.

What is your guilty pleasure TV show?

It’s not a ‘guilty’ pleasure, it’s just a pleasure, but Parks and Recreation.

When you were a kid, what did you say you wanted to be when you grew up?

That’s an easy one. I wanted to be president. Next Asian Hillary Clinton, right here.

What is your favorite part about working for The Hoya?

Either having fun with the news staff or the relief after finishing an issue and realizing there weren’t that many mistakes!

If you were forced to only be able to eat at one station in Leo’s for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Interestingly enough, I can’t decide even though Leo’s really sucks, but I would have to say the stir fry station. But then again the dessert section during lunch is really good and I like the meat station. So even though I hate Leo’s…I guess I kind of like it too.
