From monster dunks to a performance by one of hip-hop’s biggest names, Basketball Tip Off electrified the Hoya faithful in attendance. Performances by GU dance teams and a ceremony — featuring former Hoya Otto Porter — to honor the 2012-2013 Big East champions opened for the night’s main events. Both the women’s and men’s basketball teams were introduced to thunderous applause and John Thompson III led the students in a rousing rendition of the “We Are Georgetown” chant. The players each basked in their moment in the spotlight, before rapper B.o.B took the floor for a half-hour performance of his hit songs, complete with background dancers. McDonough was rocking for hours in a kick-off event to remember.
