This weekend, the Georgetown women’s sailing team placed fourth in a field of eighteen schools at the Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship held by SUNY Maritime in the MAISA conference. TheHoyas’ coed sailing team also competed this weekend at the Atlantic Coast Championships held by Harvard in the NEISA conference. The coeds placed 10th out of the 18 competing teams.

The women’s team enjoyed a beautiful weekend on the East River, with plenty of sun countering the breeze. The first day of the regatta saw eight races completed for both the A and B divisions. After the first day of sailing, Brown led the pack with Yale close behind and Charleston and Georgetown closely contending with the leaders.

Each division completed six races Sunday in equally nice weather, bringing the race total to 14. After a breakdown request heard by Nick Ewenson — the assistant coach of the sailing team of the College of Charleston — the Hoyas received average points in the 12A race.

At the end of the day, the Georgetown women competing in the A division finished first with 68 points. Georgetown placed eighth in the B division with a total of 124 points, 54 more than division winner Dartmouth. Overall, the Georgetown women finished well, placing fourth behind Yale, Dartmouth and Rhode Island.

The coed sailing team also enjoyed pleasant weather this weekend, sailing in the Atlantic Coast Championship Regatta hosted by Harvard. The Georgetown sailors competing in the A division finished in tenth place with 169 points while the B division sailors placed ninth with 152 points. Overall, the team finished 10th, with a team total of 321 points.

After 21 regattas this season, the Blue and Gray enjoy a 65.3 finish percentile heading into the Rose Bowl Regatta Jan. 8 at the University of Southern California.
