Errors Doom GU Against D.C. Rivals

The Georgetown women’s volleyball team (1-2) dropped the first two matches of its season last weekend to George Washington (2-1) and George Mason (1-2) in the D.C. Challenge before salvaging its third and final contest of the tournament against American (2-1).

In their match on Friday against the Colonials, the Hoyas fell behind 2-0 before battling through three lead changes in the third frame to notch their first set win of the year. In the fourth, however, the Blue and Gray came up on the short end of another hotly contested set and fell 3-1 (21-25, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25).

The second day of the tournament featured a doubleheader against George Mason and American. In a disappointing first match, Georgetown was swept 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 13-25), but the Hoyas roared to life in the second tilt to sweep the Eagles 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-20).

In the three matches combined, Georgetown out-killed its opponents 125 to 112 but committed 68 errors to their foes’ 43. Freshman outside hitter Brooke Bachesta led the squad with 25 kills for the tournament and junior setter Ashley Malone tallied 102 assists. Junior libero and captain Tory Rezin notched 34 digs and sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Wise recorded a team-high 13 blocks.

The Hoyas return to the court tonight at Towson at 7 p.m.
