Burglary Reported On 36th Street

Several electronics were stolen from a student residence in the 1400 block of 36th Street Monday afternoon, according to an alert from the Department of Public Safety.

In an email sent to the campus community around 3:30 p.m., DPS reported that an unknown person entered the residence between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Although one of the residents was home, the resident did not make contact with the suspect, and there was no evidence of forced entry.

The Metropolitan Police Department and DPS are jointly conducting an ongoing investigation of the break-in. This is the first burglary reported by DPS since the beginning of the school year.

Though this is the first instance of a burglary this September, 10 thefts have been reported by DPS this month. In total, two burglaries and 14 thefts occurred in August of this year. The frequency of burglaries has dropped significantly since last fall, with eight instances in August and four by Sept. 18 of last year.
