Two Hoyas Named to CFPA Watch Lists

The Hoyas won’t take to the gridiron for another month, but two Georgetown football players have already earned national preseason accolades.

The College Football Performance Awards, the end-of-season honors for Football Championship Subdivision players, honored senior cornerback Jeremy Moore and senior linebacker Robert McCabe with spots on preseason watch lists in their respective positions.

Moore grabbed four interceptions during the 2011 season and returned them for 178 total yards, the highest figure of any player in the Patriot League. That performance led to his selection for the conference’s first team as a cornerback and kickoff returner.

The Connecticut native also had 58 tackles and led the Patriot League by averaging 29.2 yards in his kickoff returns.

Like Moore, McCabe also earned more than his fair share of tackles, finishing 2011 with 134 and setting Georgetown’s single-season record in the process. The record-breaking mark likewise earned him a well-deserved spot on the all-Patriot League first team.

The Hoyas were the best defensive team in the conference last season, allowing just 19.3 points per game. To keep up that stifling pressure, Georgetown will need major contributions from McCabe and Moore.
