Personal bests were abundant once again for the Georgetown women’s track team over the weekend as it split up to compete at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa and the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston.

In Iowa, the one-mile race featured two top-10 finishes and a new record for the Hoya women. Senior Piper Donaghu set a new personal best and came in sixth place with a time of 4:42.57 and graduate student Meredith Rizzo came in ninth place with a time of 4:44.80.

Although it was her first time competing in the event, sophomore Paige Hofstad finished 10th in the 5000-meter race with a time of 16:04.84.

“Paige is having an outstanding opening season of collegiate indoor track, and tonight was her first indoor 5K at Georgetown, and she kept up with some of the best in the country,” Director of Track and Field Julie Culley said in an interview with GUHoyas.

In the 800m, freshman Olivia Arizin took 20th place with a time of 2:11.61.

The trend of personal bests continued in Boston.

“In Boston, we have our runners continuing to PR and get faster with each meet. It’s really great to see all the hard work these athletes have put in start to pay off on the track and in competition,” Culley said.

In the 400m, freshman Shannon Meisberger set a new personal record of 55.99, earning 16th place. She also broke her previous record in the 200m with a time of 24.86.

“Shannon Meisberger ran two big personal bests in the 200m and 400m, showing strength and patience in her training,” Culley said in an email to The Hoya.

Graduate student Taylor Williams also found success in the 200m, coming in eighth place with a time of 24.45. In the 60m, Williams came in seventh place, running a time of 7.74. Freshman Malika Houston earned fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.90.

Several Georgetown women turned out for the 3000m race. Senior Josette Norris finished 17th with a time of 9:32.89, sophomore Margie Cullen finished just a second later to take 19th place with a time of 9:33.80 and senior Autumn Eastman came in 25th with a time of 9:36.78.

Senior Madeline Perez came in 48th in the one-mile race with a time of 4:56.59.

In its last meets before the Big East Championships, Georgetown will compete Feb. 17 at the Alex Wilson Invitation in Notre Dame, Ind., and the JDL Fast Track Last Chance Meet in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Culley noted the importance of the weekend’s events ahead of the Big East Championships.

“We want to be running fast and competing well these last two weekends heading into the Big East Championships,” Culley said.
