Once a week, The Hoya recognizes one or two staffers who have done a particularly awesome job — now you can get to know about them, too. As our last installment for 2014, our Staffers of the Week were Emma Hinchliffe and Michal Grabias. Unfortunately we were unable to get hold of Michal, the excellent General Manager from spring 2014 to fall 2014, but here’s our interview with Emma.

Emma Hinchliffe

Hometown: Glen Ridge, New Jersey
School: COL
Year: 2015
Major: Government
Position on The Hoya: Former Editor-In-Chief, currently a contributing editor

Why did you earn Staffer of the Week?
I finished my yearlong term as The Hoya’s editor-in-chief!

Why did you decide to join The Hoya?
When I got to Georgetown, the only thing I knew I wanted to do was join the newspaper. Even as I changed my mind about almost everything else, that was the ne thing that stayed the same since day one, and it proved to be my best decision here.

What was your favorite part of being EIC?
When I look back on my time at Georgetown, I know I’ll immediately think about The Hoya. It’s been my defining Georgetown experience and where I learned more than I did in any classroom. I’ve loved reporting difficult stories, spending absurd amounts of time in The Hoya’s office, learning how to be a reporter, writer and editor, and seeing the tangible results of our hard work in print twice a week (and online every day). It’s been a privilege to lead The Hoya over the past year and I’m proud to see the next staff already making the paper their own.

If you ran the university for a day, what would you do first?
I would sell The Hoya its trademark and everything so it could go independent from the university. And also, reopen the Reiss pathway.

If you could be any vegetable, what would you be and why?
Definitely Brussels sprouts because I love them!

Congrats Emma and Michal, and thanks for your many semesters of great work!
