The Georgetown women’s golf team took home its second consecutive Big East Championship on April 22 at the Callawassie Island Golf Club in Callawassie, S.C. Senior Jacquelyn Eleey won her second Big East individual title, becoming the first player in conference history to do so. She won for the first time as a freshman in 2015. As a team, the Hoyas earned a three-day score of 39-over par 903 to win by 20 strokes.

“This was such a great week for the program and this team,” Head Coach Kate Schanuel said. “Defending is not easy to do and we played hard each day. I am so happy for Jacquelyn to take the title for the second time and make history in this event.”

Georgetown finished strong on Sunday with a 10-over par 298, the best team round of the weekend, to pull away from the field and amass a 20-stroke lead. Seton Hall (923) and Xavier (938) rounded out the podium at second and third place respectively. Butler (946), St. John’s (952) and Creighton (993) made up the rest of the leaderboard.

Individual champion Eleey entered the final round one stroke off the lead, and carded a 1- over par to complete her three-day score of 6-over par 222. She finished out her final round in fashion with an electric chip-in birdie from a bunker near the green on the 18th hole.

Junior Christina Parsells, who was the individual leader after Saturday’s second round, earned runner-up honors with an overall score of 13-over par 229.
Sophomore Ashley Fitzgibbons climbed 11 spots on the leaderboard on Saturday with a 1-over 73, and turned in a 2-over par 74 over the final 18 holes to move up another two spots, finishing in the top 10. She finished the tournament with an overall score of 16-over par 232. Fitzgibbons tied for ninth place with junior Pendleton Bogache, who shot a 6-over par 78 on Sunday.

Junior Alexa Popowitz tied with Eleey for the best round of the final day, carding a 1-over par 73. She moved up four spots to finish in 11th place with a three-day total score of 17-over par 233.

With their team victory at the Big East Championship, the Hoyas earned an automatic spot in the NCAA Championship. Georgetown will be seeded 16th at the Austin Regional, which will begin May 7.
