Last weekend, the Georgetown men’s and women’s golf teams competed in their first fall tournament of the season.

The men’s team travelled to Henryville, Ind., for the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational hosted by Indiana University at Champions Point Golf Club.

Men’s golf Head Coach Tommy Hunter was optimistic about playing in the competition.

“This is our first time competing in the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, and we are excited and honored to be a part of the field,” Hunter said in an interview with GUHoyas. “We had solid scoring in our qualifier, which builds confidence as we begin the fall season.”

Georgetown sat in eighth place following the first round of the tournament with a five-over par 293. Junior Eduardo Blochtein led the team in the first round, shooting a two-under par 70.

Because of inclement weather, the tournament’s schedule was rearranged, leaving the Hoyas unable to play the third round. They posted a two-round score of 593 over the weekend.

Southern Illinois finished at the top of the leaderboard with a 28-under par team score of 836.

Eduardo Blochtein shot an even par 72 in the second round while sophomore Will Rand carded a 73. Freshman Will O’Neill finished with a 76, junior Patrick DiPasquale shot an 80 and junior Hardin Councill shot 79.

The Blue and Gray return to competition Sept. 28 and 29 at the Villanova Invitational in White Manor, Pa.

The women’s golf team finished 18th last weekend at College of Charleston’s Cougar Classic in Hanahan, S.C.

The 19-team field included eight teams that finished inside the NCAA Top 25 last season and 11 teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament.

The top five finishers of the competitive classic were Florida (546), Vanderbilt (549), Arkansas (560), Furman (565) and Florida State (568).

Senior Pendleton Bogache carded 74s in both rounds to finish at 4-over par 148. Bogache birdied two of the final four holes on Monday to enter a tie for 48th place.

Senior Christina Parsells, senior Alexa Popowitz, and junior Ashley Fitzgibbons  finished 59th, 83rd, and 88th respectively.

Before the season, Parsells praised the camaraderie of the women’s team.

“Our schedule for the fall is great, we’re playing in some really good events,” Parsells said in an interview with GUHoyas. “Being a senior is bittersweet because I know the year will fly by, but I’m hoping the seniority will allow me to be a little more relaxed on the course and just have fun and enjoy playing.  Our team is very supportive of each other and as a senior, I’m excited to help lead us to hopefully some more wins.”

The next test for women’s golf comes Sept. 22 and 23 at the Nittany Lion Invitational hosted by Penn State.
