Maren Fagan (CAS ’27) will serve as The Hoya’s editor-in-chief beginning April 13.
Fagan, one of the paper’s current executive editors, will be the 152nd editor-in-chief of The Hoya, Georgetown University’s newspaper of record since 1920. She will lead the paper throughout the Fall 2025 semester and will publish her first print edition April 25.
Fagan, a native of Daphne, Ala., joined The Hoya as a news writer in Fall 2023 and has since served as a news desk editor, senior news editor and executive editor. As editor-in-chief, Fagan will aim to increase the paper’s inclusivity in hiring, further develop The Hoya’s social media and online profile and continue The Hoya’s investigative coverage.
In her current role as executive editor, Fagan has led The Hoya’s editorial sections while continuing reporting on sensitive and breaking stories. Fagan has reported on university admissions, federal government actions affecting Georgetown including the detention of Georgetown University researcher Badar Khan Suri and ongoing contractual negotiations between the university and its resident assistants’ union.
As senior news editor during the Fall 2024 semester, Fagan led The Hoya’s largest section, overseeing the paper’s student life, academics, student government, graduate and city beats. Fagan led reporting on student government elections, the university data leak that exposed thousands of students’ and graduates’ personal information and protests over the Israel-Hamas war in the Middle East.
Before taking those positions, Fagan served as news desk editor, working on the academic affairs beat, and as a staff writer.
Outside of The Hoya’s newsroom, Fagan is majoring in government and justice and peace studies with a minor in journalism in the College of Arts & Sciences.
The Hoya is Georgetown University’s oldest and largest student-run newspaper, publishing online daily and in print weekly. To reach out to Fagan with comments, questions or concerns about The Hoya, please email [email protected] or visit The Hoya’s office in Leavey Center 421.
