Jogger Sexually Assaulted on Capital Crescent Trail

A female jogger was sexually assaulted in the Georgetown section of the Capital Crescent Trail Wednesday evening, U.S. Park Police reported.

According to a press release on the U.S. Park Police website, the victim was approached from behind while running on the trail at about 9:16 p.m. The attacker put her in a choke hold and she lost consciousness. She awoke to find that her pants were down and the suspect was fondling her. She screamed, and the suspect fled.

The press release describes the suspect as a muscular black male with dreadlocks and a thin beard wearing a white shirt and black shorts. It also estimates that his height was between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-11 and his weight between 180 to 200 pounds.

The Department of Public Safety issued a public safety alert via email notifying members of the campus community of the incident. It also urged community members to use caution while on the trail, an 11-mile paved path that runs between the Georgetown neighborhood and Silver Spring, Md.

U.S. Park Police are conducting the ongoing investigation of the incident.
