Students Tied Up, Injured in Armed Burglary

Three Georgetown students were victims of an armed burglary at their residence on the 3500 block of S Street last night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

At 12:13 a.m., three suspects knocked on the door, entered the house and tied up its residents. One of the suspects was carrying a handgun. Two laptops and three cell phones were taken, and one victim sustained minor injuries to his nose and lip, according to MPD Public Information Officer Hugh Carew.

All three suspects in the burglary were black men. One was described as wearing black pants and a black coat while holding the gun, one was wearing a gray coat and gray pants and the other was wearing a black jacket and black pants.

MPD responded and searched the area, and as of yet no suspects have been apprehended. MPD detectives are handling the ongoing investigation.

There were several discrepancies between reports about the incident released by MPD and the Department of Public Safety, including the number of victims, the time of the incident and the descriptions of the suspects.

“The information [DPS] received was obtained while the incident was unfolding. It may be that there was unintended miscommunication at the crime scene location that was later clarified by MPD detectives,” DPS Associate Director Joseph Smith said regarding the differences in the reports.

This is the fourth robbery or burglary to occur in the West Georgetown and Burleith sections of 35th Street in the past three weeks.
