The Georgetown track and field teams closed out their regular seasons May 3 at the Jim Kehoe Twilight meet hosted by the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. The following weekend, the teams travelled to Randall’s Island, N.Y., on May 10 for the Big East Outdoor Track and Field championship, which saw the teams capture multiple victories in a very strong weekend performance.
The men and women each had very strong seasons, seeing heavy contributions from all four classes with victories at different distances and field events.
The Hoya women produced a multitude of top-five finishes in the sprint events at the Jim Kehoe Twilight meet. Freshman Tamiya Roberts and sophomore Cassidy Palmer started the team off by placing third and fifth respectively in the 100-meter dash. Sophomore Olivia Arizin subsequently gave the women yet another top-three finish in the 400m dash.
In the middle-distance events, freshman Cathilyn McIntosh nabbed second place in the 800m run with a time of 2:11.25. Freshman Sami Corman took first place in the 1500m run, and fellow freshman Katie Dammer finished less than five seconds after to place fourth.
Rounding out the women’s track events, sophomore Vickie Milledge finished in third place with a time of 15.14 in the 100m hurdles.
On the men’s side, freshman D’Andre Barriffe placed third in the 100m dash for the first men’s event of the day. Barriffe followed up with another third-place finish in the 200m dash.
The Hoya men had three runners finish in the top-five in the 800m run. Sophomore Ruach Padhal placed first with a time of 1:49.19, while freshman Ian Delgado finished in second place and fifth-year Brennan Munley came in fourth.
On the field, sophomore Josiah Laney placed second in the triple jump with a score of 13.56m.
In the Big East championships, Graduate student Madeline Perez kicked off the events in the first finals event by racing to second place in the 10,000m run, giving the Georgetown women eight points.
Dammer came in fifth place and freshman Katherine Modrall came in sixth in the 3000m steeplechase event. The duo totaled seven points together, and the women’s team ended the day with 15 points.
In the first men’s finals event, junior Jack Van Scoter claimed second place in the 10,000m run to score eight points. Fellow junior Dylan Scarsone finished in fifth place in the event to add four more points.
Junior Christian Liddell recorded a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase event, taking first place with a time of 8:46.09 and giving the Hoyas 10 points. Freshman Price Owens received an additional four points with his fifth-place win.
Laney scored another point for the men’s team in the long jump by marking 6.44m, giving the men’s team a total of 27 points.
The men and women each finished in fifth place in the Big East championship, scoring 92 and 76 points, respectively. These scores were led by the Hoyas collectively capturing five event victories and 14 top-three finishes in what was ultimately a successful season.
