A forced and an unforced burglary occurred at two residences on the 1300 block of 33rd Street Tuesday morning, according to the Department of Public Safety.
In a Public Safety Alert emailed to the campus community, DPS said that a Georgetown staff member reported the two burglaries at 7:56 p.m. Wednesday night. Both burglaries occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
In the first incident, the residence was entered through an unlocked door, and three laptops, an MP-3 player and jewelry were taken. In the second burglary a screen was cut, but nothing appeared to have been taken. No victims were harmed in either incident.
A witness saw a potential suspect leaving the second residence. The suspect is described as a black male in his thirties and over six feet tall who was wearing dark blue clothing and carrying a toolbox.
According to Associate Director of DPS Joseph Smith, DPS is dealing with the incidents in a number of ways.
“In addition to being the standard criminal investigation, we’re going to meet with the residents of the apartment block [to] and discuss crime prevention measure and have a dialogue with them and see what we can do to help them with their safety profile,” Smith said.
MPD is handling the ongoing investigation of the crimes.
