Being in a rock band is an unbelievable experience — particularly in one that has so many members and such a diversity of musical genres as this year’s Georgetown Cabaret 2011.

We spend six weeks prepping for one huge show, practicing 10 hours each weekend with all nine of our singers and working to nail twenty-six songs. In the first rehearsals the show felt eons away. Turning our amps up together for the first time, hearing the first hints of the sound we were going to have, we would just jam.

Slowly, the songs begin to coalesce and you start to get that little bit of rock and roll swagger until finally you are itching to get out in front of people. There is nothing like playing for your friends, which is what makes the Cabaret experience that much more special.

The amazing support we receive from our classmates fuels the performance, whether it’s at the Tombs, in Leo’s or at last night’s performance at Fur. Taking that stage, with professional sound and lights, you really do feel like a rock star. We’ll be coming down from last night’s high all weekend.

If there is a better feeling than playing amazing rock and pop in front of your friends, raising money for D.C. Schools, I certainly haven’t found it!
