Georgetown kicked off the spring season with a dominant win at the Old Dominion Regatta in Norfolk, Va., last weekend.

Old Dominion hosted the first conference regatta of the spring season. Following an impressive fall season, the Hoyas are hungry for a repeat of the national championship crown they won last spring.

Last fall, the Hoyas maintained their No. 1 ranking until the very end of the season, when the College of Charleston closed out on top. However, Georgetown returns two all-Americans to the squad and has often had better spring seasons than fall seasons. The Hoyas proved their potential by getting off to a hot start in their conference.

Both of the Hoya boats cruised to a T-1 finish with a record of 6-0. Impressive performances were led by sophomore William Logue, senior Roger Dorr, senior Jack Marshall, freshman Caroline Teare, junior Andy Reitner, junior Campell D’Eliscu and senior Meaghan MacRae.

The seniors played a pivotal role in the win as they used their experience to lead the Hoyas through the high winds, which ranged from 15 to 20 knots. Georgetown shined in high wind conditions this fall because the team is used to these conditions from training on the windy shores of the Potomac near Reagan National Airport. This experience was key to the Hoyas’ defeat of Old Dominion, Navy and St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

This weekend, the Georgetown women face an important early test against College of Charleston at the Charleston Women’s Regatta, while the remainder of the team heads to Annapolis for the Navy Quad Team Race.
