WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | Butler Transfers to UConn

Reigning Big East Freshman of the Year, former Georgetown center Natalie Butler completed her transfer to Connecticut on Wednesday.

“I think Natalie is one of the most unique players in the game today,” Connecticut Head Coach Geno Auriemma said in a statement released by the school. “There just aren’t many 6-5 players in the country and … Natalie has the potential to be just as good [as Stefanie Dolson] and we are very excited for her to get on campus.”

Last season, Butler was the only Hoya to start all 32 games and led the team in minutes played. The standout freshman notched a team-high 24 double-doubles, which was the ninth most in the country and the most among freshman.

In addition to being named the unanimous Big East Freshman of the Year, Butler was named to the all-Big East second team — the only freshman to be named to any all-Big East team.

After a disappointing 11-21 season, Georgetown will look to improve despite a depleted frontcourt. With Butler’s transfer, the Hoyas are left without a true center.
